S’mores made Indoors: S’mores made in the microwave

Growing up, camping was an alien concept – something that I only read about in story books. And in one such story book I discovered S’mores. Never having tasted Graham Crackers or Marshmallows, the taste was something left only to the imagination. S’mores is a popular night time treat that one has when out camping in the outdoors (traditionally in the USA and Canada). Usually, marshmallows stuck on top of sticks are roasted in the campfire and sandwiched between two Graham Crackers along with a square of chocolate. My son discovered marshmallows when Caillou went on a camping trip with his Grandpa & Daddy and roasted marshmallows in the campfire. And sometime in the last couple of weeks or so he found out about s’mores and wanted to have some while camping out. He is yet to camp out, but I fulfilled his wish of eating s’mores – well almost! I made some using the microwave. And he did say after eating one – ‘Can I have some more please!’ and it is believed that ‘s’mores’ is a contraction of the phrase ‘Some mores’ (Source:Wikipedia).

S'mores made in Microwave

Ingredients (for 2):

  • Graham Crackers – 4 squares (I used Honey Maid)
  • Chocolate Chips – 1 tbsp
  • Milk – 1/2 tsp
  • Marshmallow – 2 medium or 1 big cut into half
In a microwave safe bowl, heat the chocolate chips and milk for 15-20 seconds till the chips melt. Keep an eye while you microwave as chocolate burns easily in the microwave. Stir well till the chocolate is smooth and shiny. Slather two Graham Cracker square with the melted chocolate and keep aside. If you want you can put squares of chocolate instead. I used melted chocolate since I did not have any chocolate bar at home. In a microwave safe plate place the other two Graham Crackers with a marshmallow (or half) on each. Microwave for 20-25 seconds till the marshmallows puffs up and doubles in size. Take these out and immediately cover with the chocolate covered graham crackers and press gently till the gooey marshmallow spreads.
