Simple to make and it is good for you – can it get any better? Oh yeah.. it is tasty too. The only catch is that it just takes about 18 to 24hours for the moong bean (green gram) to sprout. If you are not willing to invest that time, you can buy it.. the supermarkets sell sprouts now.
You will need about a cup of green moong daal (sprouted), 1/3rd cup each of chopped onion and cucumber, 1 small tomato – copped, 2 green chilis, salt to taste and about 1/2 tsp of chaat masala.
The sprouting involves 3 easy steps.
- Soak the moong daal for about 6 hours.
- Drain the water and transfer it to a casserole. If you are using a container with a tight lid, make sure to wrap the daal in a cheesecloth.
- Leave it in the fridge overnight to complete the germination process.
Chop the onions, cucumber, tomatoes and green chilies and add these to the sprouts. Add a squeeze of lemon, dash of chaat masala and a fat pinch of salt and toss with a spoon to mix well. Serve by itself or some corn chips. I have used it as topping on crackers too along with a slice of cheese (I used Britannia Cheese Cubes)
Note:You can store the sprouts in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.
Certainly a great and healthy dish. Love the addition of cheese:)
